Social Hops: adding 20 new plants using old Key Kegs

Social Hops Project Year 3 has kicked off and following on from the rhizome day last Thursday, we added 20 new plants destined for growing spaces in our bars. We decided to use some used Brewtonic 30L Key Kegs taken from our bars that would have been thrown out to pot the plants. Here’s how it went.

Step 1: decapitate Key Keg

Step 2: drill drainage holes in base and remove wrapper from inside

Step 3: spread the base with a layer of gravel for better drainage and add soil (50/50 topsoil and compost)

Step 4: dig out soil and add rhizome

Ready for action for year 3. Once the hop shoots are ready, we’ll train them on to trellis or along a wall.
