We took a spin down to a couple of interesting farms in Wicklow yesterday. One of the former stalwarts of The Bernard Shaw, Davi, has set up a modest veg farm over the last six months supplying local residents and even restaurants in the city with mixed vegetable boxes. Named Hazel and Davi’s Wicklow Farm they grow all sorts from kale, salad greens, split peas and courgettes in the field, tomatoes and sweet potato among others in the poly tunnel.
Next up we took a short spin to Abwood to visit Philip from The Wicklow Hops Company. Philip has come on board this year with the Social Hops Project and we’ve been dying to visit his setup ever since we met him. He’s got several fields to expand into over the years and only in the second year, tonnes of potential. It didn’t hit us immediately but we got the true scale of the project when we looked around a bit more and could see the number of year one and two plants in the ground.
